AIM
The project aims to create a roadmap with a methodological approach for the effective management of future competing land demands by evaluating the impacts of LULC changes caused by various policies, plans, and investments on ecosystem services in Izmir. The project is expected to evaluate ecosystem services in İzmir and its districts, considering factors like population density and urban functions, and propose location-sensitive policies across urban, rural, and transition zones.
OBJECTIVES
- Mapping of LULC between 1990 and 2020 for the example of Izmir Province.
- Modeling future LULC scenarios for 2040, taking into account existing policies and plans for land use, biodiversity conservation, and climate change, and revealing the changes/transitions occurring in landscape patterns.
- Mapping of ecosystem services for 2020 and 2040, and identifying the strongest and weakest regions in terms of multiple services.
- Revealing the relationship between LULC and landscape pattern changes and ecosystem services.
- Developing approaches to help integrate ecosystem services into planning and management processes.
